It will always transmit the same amount of torque to both wheels – ideal whilst both wheels have 100% grip as they both have 100% of the torque that the engine is delivering too them. But, put one of those wheels in a situation where it can slip – for example on some ice – if it only took a tiny amount of torque to make that wheel turn, exactly the same amount of power would be sent to the wheel that isn’t on ice. Hence why you’ll get one wheel spinning and one not doing anything. The same theory can be applied to cornering. As the weight of the vehicle is transferred and the tyre on the inside begins to be lifted off of the ground, the amount of engine power required to make it turn is significantly reduced and so the amount of power sent to the outside “loaded” wheel, will be exactly the same. At which point, it wouldn’t matter if you had 50bhp or 500bhp, as none of it would be getting to the wheel with any grip. To get around this an LSD can be fitted. A LSD, or limited slip diff, does as it says on the tin – limits the amount of slip of that inside wheel. It does this by essentially transferring torque directly from the housing to the side gears and thus bypassing the actually differential bevel gears. The differentials are reconditioned with genuine OE components, fully stripped down, cleaned using our in house ultrasonic cleaner, Pinion depth, tolerances, preload, backlash, contact mesh checked along with all new seals, and non consumables replaced. New molybdenum ceramic clutch pack and visco pump rebuilt. Currently and one of very few companies in the UK – possibly the only one – able to offer this upgrade. We have many options in respect to mods, up rated / improved parts, and processes implemented. So you can feel rest asssuered that you are purchasing a quality engineered component. The workmanship and attention to detail that goes into one of our Differential builds is bar non you will not find any corners cut here. We pride our selves on our Differentials not only internal but external and guarantee our Units for 12 months. All my Differential are built by my self by hand in house every part is scrutinized and inspected and nothing is left to chance. My Differential are fully reconditioned units which means all serviceable parts are replaced. I find my self more and more repairing Differentials that have apparently been reconditioned months prior to find out that all that may have been changed is the absolute minimum or nothing at all. All preload shims custom ground in house to a 1 micron tolerance. A properly rebuilt automotive part. Rebuild includes full strip and cleaning of internal oiling system, with modifications to increase oil flow. The item has been completely disassembled, cleaned and examined for wear and breakage. Worn out, missing or non-functioning components have been replaced with new or rebuilt components. It is the functional equivalent of a new part and is virtually indistinguishable from a new part. We’ll also guarantee our work for 1 years, or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first) on fitted Differential, 6 months / 6,000 miles on’take-away’ units and 3 months for all auxiliary parts. The old Differential needs to be unmolested and serviceable, what this means is that the Differential needs to come complete not stripped or dismantled, and must have no holes or damage to the case. If your Differential is leaking oil from the case or has no drive, then its safe to say that the Differential is most likely non serviceable. Once the new Differential has been received simply refrain all packaging and securing fixings, these will assist you when returning the old Differential. It has been engineered to be the strongest, most progressive and versatile LSD unit in the market place today. The NXG Performance bevel and planet gear pack, with its big, strong tooth profile, gives not only a smooth mesh, it also all but eliminates the rattle and excessive back lash often associated with plate-type LSD’s. Whilst the plate pack, which always runs on a minimum of 8 active surfaces (even in our lighter pre-load settings) to give maximum surface-to-surface area contact during use. Because your differential will be assembled by one of our experts here in the UK, we can set it up to suit your exact requirements. 3J Driveline Limited Slip Differentials. The standard “open” differential is ideal in most factory cars, but is far from ideal for getting the best out of your car. It will always transmit the same amount of torque to both wheels – ideal whilst both wheels have 100% grip as they both have 100% of the torque that the engine is delivering too them. But, put one of those wheels in a situation where it can slip – for example on some ice – if it only took a tiny amount of torque to make that wheel turn, exactly the same amount of power would be sent to the wheel that isn’t on ice. Hence why you’ll get one wheel spinning and one not doing anything. The same theory can be applied to cornering. As the weight of the vehicle is transferred and the tyre on the inside begins to be lifted off of the ground, the amount of engine power required to make it turn is significantly reduced and so the amount of power sent to the outside “loaded” wheel, will be exactly the same. At which point, it wouldn’t matter if you had 50bhp or 500bhp, as none of it would be getting to the wheel with any grip. To get around this an LSD can be fitted. A LSD, or limited slip diff, does as it says on the tin – limits the amount of slip of that inside wheel. It does this by essentially transferring torque directly from the housing to the side gears and thus bypassing the actually differential bevel gears. Whether it’s by the traditional method of “clutch plates”, or the more contemporary method of an additional set of bevel gears, the end result is essentially the same. (NOTE: This is NOT a TorSen, Torque Biasing or Helical Gear LSD). Assembled Differential Unit ONLY. Bearings, gears, gaskets/seals etc are NOT included. No instructions are included.
